Your Hire Terms
What's Included In Your Hire
FUEL
The fuel tank is filled with approximately 200 litres of diesel prior to the boat going out and this is more than enough for two weeks cruising.
If you find you need more fuel please top up before you run out as there is a charge (as per the terms below) if you call us requesting refuelling to get you to the next fuel service. If you do need to refuel yourselves, this is at your own expense. We do ask you keep the fuel above the 30 Litre mark on the dip-stick.
GAS FOR HEATING & COOKING
There are two 13kg propane Calor Gas bottles on the boat. One is connected and in use, the second one is a new full bottle in reserve. When the in use bottle runs out, you will need to swap it over for the new full bottle. Any extra bottles are at your expense.
IMPORTANT - Please do not return Maddison with two empty bottles as we'll reluctantly have to charge you to replace one bottle at the current rate our Marina charge. Only Calor Gas should be purchased as this can be exchanged at canal-side service locations for the same weight 13kg bottles. Please don't purchase smaller weight bottles as this will incur an extra charge to you.
PARKING & SECURITY
There is free gated parking for a maximum of two private vehicles. The marina is covered by CCTV. See conditions below.
What's Not Included In Your Hire
CLEANING WHEN YOU RETURN MADDISON
Maddison is handed over to you in a very clean condition and we take pride in this. All we ask is that that you return her to back to us in the same condition in which you received her.
We understand that canal cruising can leave the floors a little dirty from the towpath. But please sweep and mop the floors. We also ask you to clean the shower, toilets, kitchen, cooker and hard surfaces. Cloths and cleaning products are provided for you on the boat free of charge. If Maddison is retuned in an unclean condition, we'll reluctantly ask you to settle the charges stated in our Cleaning Conditions below.
EXTRA FUEL
As stated above. The boat is provided with a full tank of diesel fuel which is approximately 200 litres. Please don't let the fuel tank drop below 30 Litres as this will draw tank sediment into the fuel filter. The engine aboard Maddison uses approximately 1.3 litres per hour of cruising. If you find you may be running low on fuel (using the dip stick) then please re-fuel the boat to the required amount needed to complete your journey. This is at your expense.
EXTRA GAS
Once you have used up your spare gas bottle, replacement will be at your own expense. Please only purchase Calor Gas bottles of the same weight of 13Kg from canal-side services.
BREAKAGES & LOSS
The costs of repair and replacement of damaged or lost items will be your responsibility. Please inform us of any damage or loss you are unable to reinstate as soon as it happens as we will need to reinstate it before the next hire period, which may well be the same day as you return. Thank you.
LATE ARRIVAL TO MADDISON
Please allow plenty of time for your journey to our location. Google Maps is good for planning your journey to Maddison as it gives you real time information. Late Arrival is charged at the rate stated below in the terms and is payable on the spot before your time afloat.
EARLY ARRIVAL TO MADDISON
If you arrive earlier, there are cafes, pubs and hotels in which you can spend some time. We hope you understand that Maddison needs to be prepared for you.
LATE RETURN OF THE BOAT
Please plan to return Maddison at the agreed time. Returning Maddison later than agreed impacts on when she can be ready for her next guests later that day. Late returns are charged at the rate stated below in the terms and conditions.
REPLACEMENT / DAMAGE CHARGES
We appreciate that items may be accidentally lost or damaged. We ask that these items be replaced by you prior to the end of your hire period. If you are unable to do this yourselves, please let us know before you return the boat, in order that we can replace these items ourselves, ready for for our next guests aboard Maddison. We will ask that you then cover the cost of replacing the items.
Narrowboat Maddison - Conditions of Hire
These conditions apply to the date a booking was made. Updates to any previous booking is outlined in the REVISION outlined below.
See REVISIONS at the bottom of this page.
Any contract to hire our narrow boat incorporates Conditions 1 – 6 below and is between The Boat Owners and you as the hirer.
The contract does not take effect until written confirmation of your booking and receipt of your deposit is sent to you. This contract is made in England and is governed by English Law.
1. NB Maddison General Terms
Please note that we do not accept single sex bookings of more than 2 persons without prior approval and your acceptance of our conditional booking terms.
Location
NB Maddison is currently moored in Penkridge, Staffordshire, on the Staffs & Worcester Canal. The location of her mooring may be subject to temporary or permanent re-location to another town or part of the canal system. In any event we will keep you informed.
Booking & Initial Payment
The confirmation of booking will be given once the fully completed booking form along with a non refundable deposit of (min £100.00 or 10% rounded up to the next £10) of the total price has been received by us. The hirer will then be responsible for paying the full balance at least two calendar months prior to the start date of their narrow boat holiday.
2022 Bookings & HMRC Fuel Duties - From April 2022, HMRC are planning to increase the tax on the diesel fuel used to power canal boats. Should this happen, the cost of diesel for canal boats could be equivalent to road diesel costs. As family oriented people we don't want to put any prices up, unfortunately we can't shoulder this cost alone. In the event that this increase happens, we'll be regrettably forced to add a supplement up to £10 per night you've booked dependant on the actual increase.
